WELCOME

2024 will be a busy year of Live Art, Murals, and Exhibition pieces!

I will be pursuing new directions with a few surprise meduim, and diving even deeper into the world of Acrylic possibilities. I am experimenting with new color palettes and many more monochromatic compositions. January started the year off with the annual Drink series; These pieces will be available through the “Available Work” tab as they get filed into my inventory records. Keep an eye on Social media for the unfolding of all other series and explorations.

Best,

Anita

  • Anita Gordon is an Indiana Artist exploring the world through an ever-changing focus. Her medium preferences range from oil to acrylic (studio/live), from watercolor to ink (travel), and from specialty to exterior paint (public). While her material preferences and subject matter is in a constant state of flux, the drive to create stems from the same motivation: to translate the world through a brighter lens of viewer engagement.

Anita utilizes her BFA from Herron School of Art and Design (2020) to create Exhibitions throughout each year in the Boone, Marion, and Hamilton County areas. Her Public Works and Murals can be found throughout the Boone County area. You can visit the Sugar Creek Art Center to see her studio in person.

  • Live arts are my specialty going forward in 2023! This year, I am combining my favorite two activities into an experience where viewer interaction is inseparable from my painting process. I am jumping into live art bookings to create paintings start-to-finish during live sessions. Check out the “Booking” tab above to schedule a demonstration, or peruse the “Available Works” tab to see what I have created during these live painting sessions or studio time.

  • During 2022, I will be refining my skills in both Acrylic and Oil through a monthly challenge. Each month will focus on a different subject matter to create a series of 30 pieces. While the subject matter and the medium will alternate, I will continue to utilize my favorite colorful layering techniques. This will be a year of small but plentiful colorful pieces!

  • I am a Junior Painting student pursuing a BFA at Herron School of Art. I love exploring all mediums. Although I most often choose oil on canvas, I can’t help an occasional flurry of pastel works or a plein air when the light is just right. My work varies greatly from portraiture and landscapes, to abstractions of space and observational studies. In the future I may pick out a more narrow path of both medium and subject. Until then, take advantage of this exploration in all things inspiring and join me for some unpredictable pursuits free from boundaries. ext goes here

  • Description tMy current body of work for summer 2020 stems from behavioral observations; I work with representations of figures to explore “behavioral adaptation”. This includes the ability for a person to observe another individual's actions or mannerisms, often subconsciously, for emulation or deviation. In humans, this is often a mental or societal survival, a mirroring of any given behavior for a variety of purposes. My work explores the prevalence of this behavioral mirroring and subconscious adaptation as well as the positive, neutral, and negative aspects.

Together

I love the idea of sharing knowledge, learning with others, and being a resource for eager minds whenever possible. My adventures have lead me through Peer Mentoring opportunities at Herron, into Art Instruction for ages 5+. Recently, I’ve also joined Sugar Creek Art Center to become part of an artist residency environment. By summer 2019, I plan to turn this tiny studio space into a small space where local creatives can pop in to share discoveries, pass on knowledge, and be inspired/inspire.

Travel

I love to seek out inspiration from local sources, but traveling has captured my heart. Entering a new environment causes one to re-evaluate everything once considered mundane. I hope to keep traveling the globe, adapting to other cultures, translating inspiration into communication, and becoming a little sponge for all things that inspire.

Topics and Themes

Although my work content varies greatly, there are a few reoccurring topics that I enjoy exploring. I often explore ideas of self-reflection and internal growth through portraiture and symbolism.

Finding beauty in the mundane is also a passion. I frequently seek out subjects that inspire me for their simplistic beauty. Moments like rays of sunlight, fabric textures, and repeated patterns often present inspirations for paintings. I feel that sharing these compositions with others opens up an appreciation for the authentic moments of life.
